The
individual outputs from the Emu PX7 are used for kick drum, hihats,
claps and snares, connected to individual channels on the Soundcraft
ES mixer. Some elements are effected within the PX7; the dry signal
comes out of the individual outs, and the wet effected signals come
out of the main stereo outs from the PX7, along with any string or pad
sounds I may use from the PX7. My main live synth is a Novation KS rack,
which has four seperate outputs. I use one for bass, one for lead, and
the other two in stereo for pads/strings. The KS rack has 7 in line
effects which can be used independently for each sound.
I
also have an Alesis Nanocompressor in the main inserts on the mixer,
a Lexicon MX200 for reverb, fed via auxilliary 1 on the mixer, and an
Electrix Mo-FX connected to auxilliary 2, synchronised to MIDI out 2
from the PX7. I use my Emu Esi 32 (OS3.02, with a Calamari effects and
output expansion board) in a similar way to the PX7; individual sounds
are sent to seperate channels on the mixing desk, but effected with
the sampler's internal effects, and the wet effected signal sent to
a stereo channel on the mixer.
All
devices in my effects rack are connected to a Neutrik patch bay , and
normalled to each other in this order: Deep Bass 9 303 clone; Electrix
Filter Queen; Electrix EQ Killer; Electrix Warp Factory; Zoom 1201.
This provides me with a highly configurable effects rack, where I can
route any processor to any other processor, and add any extra devices
using the front panel jacks on the patch bay.

The
PC is used mainly for making CDs, editing and recording audio. I use
Recycle to cut up loops, (some self created, like guitar loops, or effected
drum loops that I have programmed myself, but I also use loops from
sample CDs and my record collection) transmit the slices to my Emu Esi32
and create a corresponding MIDI file. I then import the MIDI file into
Cubase, and import it to the PX7 for live performances.
